Those dark clumps of material swirling around inside your vision can be attributed to the vitreous liquifying and shrinking with time. In particular, the gel called vitreous gets to be more watery and this is why those spots, globs, and lines appear in your vision.

 

The residual pieces that result from the vitreous jelly breaking apart can appear like a string of bubbles in your eyes that swims around.

Big black floaters that seem to move past you are bits of detritus that move in the gel of your vitreous body.
